BEAVERS LEAVE IT LATE AGAIN

BEAVERS LEAVE IT LATE AGAIN

It was déjà vu for Hampton & Richmond as they found a 96th minute winner for the second game in a row. The Beavers have now done the double over Chippenham Town this season – winning both contests 2-1.

Chippenham Town took an early lead through Tom Owen-Evan’s in the 9th minute – with some help from the Beavers who looked shaky in defence early in the first half. However, Hampton & Richmond looked a different side in the second half and Mason Bloomfield scored the equaliser, getting on the scoresheet for a second successive game.

It was another impact substitution from Mel Gwinnett that provided the heroics once again with Alex Gibson-Hammond’s his first goal as a Beaver.

Chippenham were the dominant side for much of the first half. The Bluebirds found a lot of joy in the wide areas and their crosses created problems for the Beavers defence. Great saves from Adam Desbois kept Hampton & Richmond in the game with the score at 0-1 going into halftime.

Hampton & Richmond started the second half quickly and they got the equaliser in the 53rd minute. Luis Fernandez was given a lot of time to put the perfect ball into the box and Bloomfield headed it home from close-range to make it 1-1.

The last-minute winner was the result of a Dominic Revan cross with Ben Seymour’s original attempt being blocked but finding Gibson-Hammond who put it into the back of the net to secure all three points for the Beavers.

The match was a feisty one with the cards flying from referee Constantine Hatzidakis’s pocket on the afternoon. He handed out a whopping nine yellow cards, including three to individuals on the benches.
